My Biography

I am CEO of a creative digital marketing agency called Brandconvert. I’m also a marketing consultant and trainer for individuals and businesses.

Starting Early

My interest in business and entrepreneurship began at a very early age (around 10 years old) in Leicestershire, England. I was introduced to business by my father who had a small business selling towels. He would sell the towels on different market stalls and also directly to businesses.

I would go along with him to observe when he was visiting the businesses and would also help on the market stall selling direct to customers. Even at such an early age I was truly intrigued by the reasons behind why one person would give money to another for a perceived benefit/product.

As a child I developed a car washing business, and was continually involved in business type endeavours, such as growing and selling plants, selling second hand computer games and drawings. I’ve also had a lot of jobs, selling in different retail stores, delivering papers and brochures, selling products door to door, and packing and distributing products. I just enjoyed earning money and liked the process of working to earn it!

University Life

Naturally, as I got older I gravitated towards business subjects. As the younger sibling of two sisters and one brother I was the first to attend university and ended up studying business.

During that time I created an enterprise providing DJ services to bars and for special events. At university I studied some subjects in law which I enjoyed and during that time I first had the idea that building a law firm would be enjoyable.

Becoming a Lawyer

After successfully completing my law degree “top-up” and legal practice course (and passing with commendation) I completed my training period working in a large civil litigation firm. I did well at the firm and became one of the top fee earners and completed my time there having never lost a case.

The firm was run by two dynamic and exceptional people and I learnt a great deal from their approach to managing people and providing a superb service.

Entrepreneurial Spirit

After a few years I left to set up my own legal practice. I rented out a small box room in a large business centre, bought a phone and a computer and started marketing. It was an incredible time. My love for law combined with the start-up process was exciting, challenging and rewarding. It was also great to implement the digital marketing strategies I had learnt in my spare time.

Whilst I started in a small box room, the business grew to take over the entire floor and was very profitable. This business would teach me a huge amount about leadership, motivation, resilience  and mindset. After six years my business was acquired by another successful law firm leaving me for the first time in my life with some time on my hands.

I decided that it was time to try something new. I still loved law and certainly hoped to return one day in the future, but for now my path would take me in a very different direction.

A New Direction

bookAfter a period of reflection I wrote a book for children called King Bear and the Elegant Cat which was published and is available in all good book stores. I was then trained by the creator of NLP, Dr Richard Bandler and became an NLP practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming. I also began to create online businesses.

I became a voracious reader and learner and consumed thousands of hours of training on marketing and personal development and read hundreds of books which added to my overall business training and life experience.

I also got involved in affiliate marketing and promoting other people’s products using paid advertising. During this time I invested a great deal of money (often without success) as I tried and tested different strategies and approaches.

Online Marketing Explosion

I started building my networks on social media and with the development and improvement of my online strategies these expanded exponentially. I successfully developed multiple online businesses and then began to show others how to do this. Around this time I started this blog which would go on to help tens of thousands of people grow their businesses.

After around a year of social network building I was organically reaching up to 30 million people a week and up to 7 million per week were directly interacting with the content I was releasing. I used this traction to start building a subscriber list and monetized my list by promoting affiliate offers.

I worked hard on producing quality opt-in incentives and, starting from a handful of opt ins a week, I was soon gaining up to  300 new emails to my list a day as my email list and campaigns continued to grow.

Helping Others

People began to contact me from all over the world asking for help with their businesses and it became impossible to help everyone. So, I initially wrote a book called Facebook Marketing, The Ultimate Guide. In the first week it was featured on top blogger John Chow’s website and described as “everything you need to know about Facebook Marketing”.

I went on to write several books about social media and online marketing.  I’ve also regularly coached individuals and worked with businesses big and small in all professions across the world to help them  find their online voice through creative marketing strategy.

Recognition

I now own a rapidly expanding full service digital agency which works with businesses providing marketing services.

Since then I’ve been fortunate enough to be  featured on lots of blogs and described as one of the top wildly successful bloggers to follow by renowned blogger Ryan Biddulph along with Neil Patel, Darren Rowse and Yaro Starak.

In 2015 I was Awarded Highly Commended in the National UKBA Blog Awards in the Digital Marketing category.

I also appeared in the national press in the Daily Mail, This is Money and Mail Online as an authority on the topic of digital marketing and e-commerce.

The Present & Future

I will continue to grow my digital agency helping businesses increase their profit, engage their customers and build their brands in unique and powerful ways. Brandconvert is a great agency. We work differently, we love what we do, and we have a unique team of highly talented individuals from all backgrounds to draw inspiration from. If you have a project in mind and want Brandconvert to take a look, why not get in touch?

Lessons

One of the biggest strengths I’ve developed from my journey so far is to always be humble. There is always something new to learn and everything to be grateful for. I like to think that I’ll always be the hardest worker in the room. I’ll always give 100% to everything I’m involved in.

In my free time, I enjoy writing, reading, running and weight training.  I’m an advocate against cruelty to animals and am a vegetarian. I also meditate for an hour every day. I’m really interested in film-making and indie films. I like fresh air, outdoor pursuits, cats, travelling and enjoying life with friends and family.
